The story of its development....
Entirely designed and validated by us, at the foot of Mont Blanc, in teams with passionate and demanding trekkers, on mythical treks: Tour du Mont Blanc, Atlas Marocain, Tour de Tenerife.
The durability of this pole has also been validated by a 550km durability test mission in the Canaries and Pyrenees (GR10).
Why have we worked specifically on resistance?
You trek to enjoy the peace and quiet of the great outdoors, which sometimes means being far from civilization. What's more, you'll be carrying your gear for days on end. So you need to be able to rely on the strength of your poles.
We've therefore opted for widened tubes made from top-of-the-range aluminum. We've secured the push-pin area with internal reinforcement. As a result, this model can withstand 560 N (~56 kg) per stick, a figure derived from the compression test (support in the axis of the stick).
Why did we focus on compactness?
To get to your trekking destination, you'll sometimes need to take public transport. You'll also need to carry a lot of equipment in your bag. So it's much more practical to have sticks that don't take up much space. Once folded, these poles fit into the side pocket of your trekking backpack.
How did we come up with this handle?
We chose EVA foam, a soft material ideal for managing perspiration and highly resistant to snags.
We added a long grip under the handle for a low grip when climbing and tilting.
The pommel is the most comfortable in the range, with its elongated rounded shape and soft material. It provides a very good grip from the top.
Finally, we designed the strap with no extra thickness and few seams to avoid blisters.
How do you set your poles to the right length?
To use the pole: first unfold the pole until the push-pin "clicks". Refer to the instructions attached to the stick.
To adjust the length: The forearm holding the stick must be perpendicular to the arm along the body.
- open the lever on the external blocker
- slide the tube to the desired length
- close the lever
Never exceed the STOP line to avoid the risk of breaking the stick.
Directions for use
This trekking pole is designed to help you balance, propel yourself and distribute effort between your arms and legs.
For greater safety, before setting off and at regular intervals, check your pole's locking mechanism by simulating heavy pressure. If you notice that your pole tends to sag, the locking knob needs adjusting. Open the lever and turn the knob a quarter to half a turn.
Do not put on your backpack in a thunderstorm.
Maintenance tips
Proper care of your stick will ensure optimum performance and a long service life.
After use, if water has penetrated the stick, dismantle the strands and allow to dry. Clean off any dust or mud with water or a soft brush. Once dry, you can reassemble the rods.
We recommend that you do not attempt to oil or grease the mechanisms.
Why is the stick sold individually?
At Decathlon, we've decided to sell our hiking/trekking poles individually. Firstly, for reasons of use. Some people only want to use one pole. Secondly, if one of your poles breaks, you only have to buy one pole rather than a whole pair.
Accessories for this model sold separately
The advantage of buying Forclaz hiking poles is that you can benefit from a wide choice of compatible accessories and spare parts. So you can enjoy them for as long as possible.
