What are the differences between Nordic walking and hiking?
Nordic walking is practiced with special poles. The poles will help propel your movement and give your upper body a thorough workout. Hiking can be done with or without poles, to give you support when going uphill and prevent you from slipping when going downhill.
How do I choose the right size for my Nordic walking poles?
1. Take the poles in hand and put on the gauntlet: stand with your arm holding the pole on the ground, your elbow should form a right angle (90°).
2. Calculate the optimum height of your Nordic Walking poles: Your height (cm) x 0.68. If you're a beginner, it's best to take a slightly smaller pole to learn the right gesture.
For example, if you're 1m67 tall, you'll need to calculate: 167x0.68 = 113.56. Set your Nordic walking poles to 110 cm.
How to use your Nordic walking poles?
1. To facilitate removal of the tips, the product used leaves a greasy film inside. To avoid losing the tip, simply put a little dust inside to remove the grease and the tip will hold securely on the point.
2. The fastener that attaches the gauntlet to the handle has a direction. There is a flat side and a bevelled side. Make sure you always have the side with the bevelled edges facing upwards, or put your gauntlets on your hands before clipping them to the stick.
What are the special features of Nordic walking poles?
Nordic walking is always practised with two poles to promote propulsion. The gauntlets allow you to let go and catch the poles without dropping them. Poles have the advantage of being lightweight. The tips of Nordic walking poles grip the ground and propel you forward. Removable toe caps (included) guarantee grip on hard ground.
What are the benefits of Nordic walking?
Nordic walking is a complete sport accessible to all. It tones the body, improves breathing, is effective for weight loss and strengthens bones. Added to these physical benefits is the sense of well-being that comes with practicing this outdoor sport.
