What are boardshorts?
A boardshort is a term used to designate a swimsuit in the surfing world.
Practical and comfortable, they are suitable for both men and women.
These swimsuits were originally developed in the 50s for surfing. In recent years, they have become a popular form of swim short.
The name "boardshort" comes from their use in board-based water sports such as surfing.
How to choose your boardshort?
RANGE 100: occasional surfing and water sports.
Short cut.
Elastic waistband: adapts to all body shapes. Drawcord for support in waves.
Inner mesh: protects against chafing.
Quick drying.
500/900 RANGE: regular surfing.
Various long cuts protect against chafing.
Flat waistband: increases hold in the wave during ducks and wipeouts.
Elastic fabric for freedom of movement.
How to choose your boardshort size?
Size guide on product sheet.
100 range boardshorts are available in sizes S to XXL.
500 and 900 range boardshorts come in sizes 38, 40, 42, 44, 46 and 48.
Your morphology may influence your choice of size.
We always recommend that you try on your swimsuit before buying. Tighten your swimsuit and gradually pull it down. If it comes down easily, it's probably too big, and you may be in for a few surprises in the waves!
Choosing boardshorts by belt type
ELASTIC WAISTBAND
Makes boardshorts adaptable to different body shapes.
SEMI-ELASTIC BELT
Ensures good support while allowing adaptability for everyone.
FLAT BELT
Helps keep boardshorts in place during ducking and wipeouts.
BELT WITH MORPHOLOGICAL ADAPTABILITY
Combines the advantages of the elastic belt (adaptability to different body shapes) and the flat belt (support in waves).
Holding in the wave
When you're surfing, whether because of a duck or a "wipe out", it's not easy to have to reposition your boardshort because it's slipped halfway down your buttocks... Choosing the right belt is therefore of prime importance. Choose an elastic or semi-elastic waistband with a drawstring, or a flat waistband for better support.
Freedom of movement
Surfing, bodyboarding and bodysurfing put a lot of pressure on the legs, so a man's swimsuit shouldn't restrict bending or swimming.
A bi-directional or quadri-directional component contributes to this freedom of movement.
Boardshort 500 is made from a four-way stretch fabric.
Reduces irritation
This is surely the most important criterion. It's not uncommon for boardshorts or their seams to chafe. Our boardshorts are designed, both in terms of shape and assembly methods, to minimize chafing during practice.
What's more, the boardshort 500 features a center band that shifts the seams away from the usual friction zones, significantly reducing the occurrence of chafing.
Fast drying
It's quite annoying to feel sand sticking to your boardshorts because they're still soaked in water. That's why it's a good idea to choose a "Stretch" component, which wicks water away from the board shorts more quickly.
Length
Your choice of boardshort length will depend mainly on your tastes. However, the shorter your board shorts, the greater your freedom of movement. The length 19 inches corresponds to a length of 48 cm on the median size 42.
Belt
The Boardshort 500 is equipped with a flat waistband that contributes to wave retention when ducking under the wave and during falls. What's more, the flat waistband provides superior comfort when paddling, lying on the board.
Pockets
The boardshort 500 is equipped with a side zipped pocket (on the right thigh).
Sun protection: The essential boardshort equipment
In hot summer weather, when the water is cooler, surfers tend to prolong their surfing sessions without adapting their equipment. This increases the risk of sunburn.
Did you know?
10 to 15% of UV rays reflect off the water, while 40 to 95% penetrate 25 cm underwater. That's why boardshorts, combined with sun protection (UV top, etc.), are becoming the essential equipment for surfing in water >25°.
