XCR
XCR pour eXtrême raCeR is the Van Rysel product range dedicated to time trials. The higher your speed, the more you have to fight against the air that prevents you from accelerating. The XCR range is at the cutting edge of aerodynamic research, with all products developed using numerical simulation and then tested in wind tunnels.
We compare our products to make sure that the cyclists who put their trust in us always benefit from the best-performing products.
AERODYNAMICS WITH SWISS SIDE
We developed the aerodynamics of this helmet with our partner Swiss Side.
VISIERES
We supply the XCR helmet with two visors:
- A tinted visor (category 3) for time trials on sunny days
- A transparent visor (category 0) for time trials on cloudy days
The visor is magnetic and can be turned over by attaching it to the helmet at the end of the race.
Both visors are made of polycarbonate and are therefore UV-resistant.
VISOR OR GLASSES FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE?
In order to provide you with objective data to help you choose your racing equipment, here are the data we have verified in two different wind tunnels with different speeds and wind angles from 0 to 20°.
There is no significant difference in terms of aerodynamics whether you wear the helmet with visor or without visor below 35Km/hr. Above this speed, the visor brings an exponential increase in watts with speed.
VENTILATION
The removable ventilation of the XCR helmet has been placed in a high-pressure zone that does not change the aerodynamic performance of the helmet.
We know that cooling the body and especially the head is important to generate good performance.
We therefore advise you to ride with the ventilation open and in very hot weather to remove the visor in favor of sunglasses.
AERODYNAMICS AND POSITION
The aerodynamics of this helmet have been designed to perform extremely well in headwinds of up to 10° angle, and at speeds of 45km/h and above.
The higher your speed, the closer the wind impacting you is to 0°, whatever its direction and strength.
This helmet is optimized for use with aerobars when the cyclist holds his or her head facing straight ahead.
RETURN CONDITIONS (SPECIFIC TO EPI)
Helmets are PPE (personal protective equipment), so protection will depend on the condition of your helmet.
We can only take back helmets in new condition. If the helmet is not suitable for you, please return it to us with the instructions and labels.
HELMET LIFETIME
The life of a helmet is not eternal. To ensure maximum safety, we advise you to change your helmet every 5 to 7 years maximum. Store your helmet in a cool, dry place, away from light and in its cover.
Extreme temperatures accelerate the deterioration of helmet foam.
In the event of a major impact, it is imperative to replace your helmet, as it may no longer be effective due to cracks in the structure.
