A MODEL INSPIRED BY THE ONE MADE FOR MICKAEL MAWEM
In 2023, we designed a version of the EDGE Soft liner specifically for Mickael Mawem (bouldering world champion - 2023), to meet his needs as a top-level athlete.
The design of the EDGE Soft liner (the commercial version) incorporates many of the construction elements proven on Mickael Mawem's liner. These range from elements of the upper and inner plate to details such as the clamping system and laser cuts in the rubber.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE PRECISION
For precision on small holds, this liner has an asymmetrical, arched and clawed shape.
A pre-tensioned rear elastomer tensioner pushes the foot continuously forward. This concentrates force on the toes (especially the big toe) for greater precision.
The design of the elastomer turnbuckle has been worked out so that the liner is pressed under the arch of the foot for even greater strength and precision.
BUT NOT ONLY...
Flexibility maximizes grip, especially on large surfaces.
But to maintain edge strength (e.g. when pushing on small holds), our designers have developed a special polymer part to provide extra rigidity on the edges of the liner.
EFFECTIVE ADHESION
For the sole, we have selected XS GRIP Vibram® 4 mm, renowned for its high-performance grip and abrasion resistance.
Our designers have worked on several construction elements (bi-sole, V-notch under the metatarsals, thin, flexible midsole) to encourage the rubber to crush against the grip. This maximizes grip.
Lastly, rubber parts on the heel and top of the liner provide excellent grip when heeling or toe-off.
OUTSTANDING COMFORT
To perform well, the liner's upper must fit snugly to the foot without causing pain.
We selected a synthetic microfiber with a brushed reverse side (PA/PU) 1.8 mm thick and very slightly elastic to adapt to the volume of the foot. Even though we use flat seams, we limited their number during assembly.
We created laser cut-outs on the rubber coating. This allows us to add volume to the top of the foot if necessary, without creating pressure points.
A POWERFUL CLAMPING SYSTEM
Our designers have linked the tightening system to the liner's tension band. This ensures a snug fit around the foot.
A large, powerful Velcro fastener locks the foot in place when you close the Velcro.
SOLE WEAR
Your insole is worn?
Our Decathlon workshops offer one of the best reshaping services on the market. We resole to the liner's original shape to guarantee its performance.
Once you've changed your sole, you'll be able to climb again with the liner already in the shape of your foot.
Warning: as soon as you see the synthetic upper through the rubber, you need to stop and resole. If you pierce the upper, resealing will be more difficult.
SIZE ADVICE
If you're just starting out, we recommend taking a little tighter than your street size (e.g. 1/2-1 size down), but it's important not to suffer so that your foot can develop mobility, proprioception and strength.
If you're an expert climber, we recommend taking the time to try on the different sizes (1 to 2 sizes down) to find the best compromise between comfort and compression for greater push-off strength.
