Grippy soles on footpaths
The design of the sole was the subject of extensive research in our laboratories. We have chosen a specific rubber formulation to optimize grip and adherence. We systematically seek the best compromise for use on soft (forest-type) and mineral (coastal-type) footpaths.
Road use may accelerate wear and discomfort. They are not suitable for mountain hiking.
Tested for optimum strength
Laboratory tests are carried out to validate the following elements: eyelet and strap tearing, gluing, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of sole and upper components, accelerated ageing.
These tests enable us to improve the quality of our products and prevent premature wear of our hiking boots.
Waterproof footwear for 2-hour hikes in wet weather
NH100 WP shoes have been tested for 2000 flexes in the laboratory. They are therefore waterproof for 2 hours of hiking.
During the waterproofness test, we test 3 levels of waterproofness:
- 2000 flexes, approx. 2 hrs hiking
- 4000 flexes, approx. 4 hrs hiking
- 8000 flexes, approx. 8 hrs hiking
We recommend using a waterproofing spray several times a year, to restore the original water repellency and limit stains.
How do we test the waterproofness of your shoes?
Tested in the laboratory and in use, membrane-equipped footwear ensures optimum waterproofing and breathability. First immersed in water under air pressure, we check for the absence of bubbles on the shoe's surface. The shoes are then half-submerged and placed on a mechanical arm simulating walking, to check that the inside of the shoe remains perfectly dry.
Product improved thanks to your feedback!
Thanks to all your feedback, we've improved the design of our waterproof NH100 Mid WP shoes. In this new model, we've added an EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) midsole to enhance your hiking comfort by reducing the feel of rocks.
How to choose the right hiking boot size?
Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks used for hiking. Try several models and sizes if necessary. Two points of comfort should be checked:
- heel support
- forefoot support
Avoid compression points when trying on shoes. Don't hesitate to walk around to test comfort and support. Use your shoes progressively during your first hikes to get them to fit your feet.
Which pair of socks goes with Quechua NH100 MID waterproof shoes?
These shoes offer a little breathability, but not enough to wick away all the moisture from your perspiration. We therefore advise you to choose Hike 100 Mid socks: they contain moisture-absorbing cotton and have a loop construction that wicks moisture away from your foot. They're also high enough to protect your ankle from the shoe. It's an excellent combination for limiting the appearance of blisters.
