Buying and fitting advice ?
Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks used for hiking. Try on several models and sizes if necessary. Two points of comfort should be checked: the heel seat and the forefoot when descending. Avoid compression points when trying on socks. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Use your shoes progressively during your first hikes to get them to fit your feet.
Which size to choose?
For hiking, don't hesitate to choose a size larger than your usual shoe size, to guarantee optimum comfort on the descent and to prevent your toes from banging against the ground. Tip: keep your nails short and, before going downhill, check that your lacing prevents your foot from sliding forward.
Product design: our expertise
Our worldwide design center Quechua is based in Passy, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in Haute Savoie.
This location makes it a real meeting place for our teams (designers, product managers, engineers...) and outdoor sports enthusiasts.
A great asset for designing your mountain hiking products, and for providing you with all our expertise.
The grip of our soles
The grip of our soles is certified. To qualify, the shoe must pass laboratory tests to evaluate the grip coefficient on different surfaces (smooth, rough, dry, wet). To validate these tests, we have the quality of our soles evaluated in the field, in the mountains, by a panel of representative testers over 500 km.
Waterproof test
In the laboratory, the shoe is placed in water up to mid-shaft on a mechanical arm generating flexions of the shoe to simulate a number of steps. Thanks to this test, we can determine a time and a number of km that the shoe can cover while remaining dry. Then we validate on the ground and in the rain that the shoe keeps its promises in use.
Extending waterproofing
We recommend waterproofing your shoes twice a year with a waterproofing agent (search for "waterproofing agent" on our decathlon website), which will restore the original water repellency and combat external stains.
How to avoid blisters?
Blisters generally appear when our skin is weakened by friction. To limit the number of blisters, we advise you to:
- Choose a shoe in your size (consult the size guide)
- Wear appropriate socks
- Lace and tighten your shoes appropriately
- Wear your shoes for a short outing the first time you use them.
How to care for your shoes
- Allow to air dry.
- Remove dried mud with a stiff brush.
- For stains, clean with a brush and lukewarm water
- Allow to dry
- Spray the stem with a waterproofing spray to restore water repellency.
