Why aren't these tights waterproof?
A waterproof membrane has the disadvantage of not being very breathable. However, cross-country skiing is an activity that requires intense physical commitment. The risk would be to sweat a lot, and then get cold.
This is why, for your cross-country ski clothing, the materials used are water-repellent (water slides over the material) and not waterproof.
Waterproof clothing is only recommended in case of heavy rain or snow during your outing.
How can I stay warm and dry on my cross-country ski outings?
These tights cover a fairly wide temperature range, so they'll be with you for most of the season.
If it's very cold, you can add a breathable technical undergarment underneath, or even a windproof overtrouser on top. This 3-layer technique will also depend on your sensitivity to the cold.
Why protect yourself from the wind?
Did you know that wind makes you feel colder?
For example, at an outside temperature of 0° with 20 km/h of wind, the perceived temperature will be -10°.
Windproof components reduce this cooling effect by preventing the circulation of air caused by wind or the relative speed of the sports activity.
