Inflating capacity of down/feather filling
For this down jacket filled with 85% down / 15% feathers, the loft is guaranteed to be greater than or equal to 660 CUIN (European standard).
Loft represents the thermal insulation capacity of down, by "trapping" a certain volume of air. So the higher the down's loft (+ the number of CUIN), the more space it occupies, the more air it traps, and therefore the better it insulates.
What are the advantages of duck down and feather filling?
Down's capacity to expand and resist gives it 3 qualities for hiking:
- Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers
- Ultra-lightness: for equal warmth, down is lighter than synthetic wadding. This saves even more weight in the backpack
- Ultra compressibility
In case of rain
The fabric of this down jacket is water-repellent. It allows drops of water to roll off the fabric, delaying the penetration of water into the down jacket until you are sheltered. But a down jacket is not waterproof. We therefore advise you to wear a waterproof jacket over the down jacket for prolonged exposure to the rain.
How do I wash my feather down jacket?
As a general rule, it's not advisable to wash a down jacket too frequently.
Here's some advice: close all the zips on your down jacket, then head for the washing machine, on the 30° synthetic program.
To keep the puffiness and warmth, it's even better to add 2 tennis balls to the machine
Be careful to set the spin speed to gentle: spinning too hard can create feather balls that are difficult to remove.
How do I dry my down jacket?
When you take your down jacket out of the washing machine, you'll have the impression that the down has disappeared. The tumble dryer is the best way to give the feathers some plumpness. Put your down jacket in with 2 tennis balls. You're ready for 2 - 3 drying cycles.
If you don't have a tumble dryer, you can dry your down comforter on a drying rack, turning it over and patting it regularly.
