Thermal insulation
This down jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been validated for an active comfort temperature of 0°C in a protocolized test in a thermal chamber. The mannequin wears a long-sleeved synthetic t-shirt and a light fleece. He walks with a simulated wind speed of 5 km/h. This corresponds to a 1-star rating in our warmth comparator.
We also tested this model statically. Its comfort temperature is +10°C.
Technical information on wadding
We use 100% polyester wadding, 100 g/m2 on the body and 60 g/m2 on the sleeves.
Our advice in case of rain
The fabric of this down jacket is water-repellent. It allows drops of water to roll off the fabric, delaying the penetration of water into the down jacket until you are sheltered. But a down jacket is not waterproof. We therefore advise you to wear a waterproof jacket over the down jacket for prolonged exposure to the rain.
Component water repellency (not to be confused with waterproofing)
A fabric's water repellency is its ability to let water slide off its surface without absorbing it. This means the fabric doesn't become waterlogged, and remains light and warm. The fabric of this down jacket is water-repellent, but we recommend you wear a waterproof jacket over it if you're exposed to the rain. Water repellency is achieved by a PFC-free treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric, but may be altered with use. We advise you to reactivate it each time you wash.
How to reactivate water repellency?
After cleaning your down jacket, we recommend using a water-repellency reactivator liquid to maintain the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. It regenerates the fabric's water repellency and optimizes the performance of your garment throughout its lifetime.
The advantages of a synthetic wadding filling
Synthetic fillings offer an interesting alternative to feathers:
- They provide good thermal insulation, even when wet
- They are more breathable and may be recommended for dynamic activities (feathers are recommended for static activities)
- They are easy to care for: they can be machine-washed at 30°C and tumble-dried.
Got a snag? Here's how to repair your down jacket
On a trek, a tear in your down jacket can happen! The good news is that it can be repaired with a patch to prevent the tear from getting any bigger, or synthetic fibers from escaping.
Don't feel comfortable repairing it yourself? Don't panic! Some Decathlon workshops offer an in-store repair service to mend your down jacket using an iron-on patch.
