TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Why wax your cross-country skis?

Cross-country skiing is first and foremost a sliding sport, so it is essential to properly maintain the base of your skis in order to get the most out of them on the slopes.

Waxing allows you to reduce retention (suction cup effect) and increase glide, by making the base of your skis as compatible as possible with the characteristics of the snow (air temperature, snow quality, etc.)

You can maintain your skis yourself or by a professional by making an appointment at your local ski shop.

When should I wax my skis?

When you buy your skis, we recommend that you prepare the base of your skis to achieve their optimum level of glide. Several consecutive waxings are recommended to "nourish" the base.

Then wax your skis regularly, depending on the duration, frequency and abrasion of the snow during your last outings.
Don't wait until the color of your base is whitish to wax your skis!

How do I choose my glide wax?

The trick to good waxing lies in choosing the product best suited to the weather conditions of your outing. The waxing of your skis will depend on the duration and frequency of your sessions, but also on the quality of the snow in terms of air temperature. It's this temperature that will determine your choice of wax "color".
Each wax "color" corresponds to an ideal temperature of use.

What's the difference between CH, LH and HF waxes?

CH = traditional hydrocarbon-based waxes.
Recommended: for ski maintenance and regular cross-country skiing.
----
LH and HF = new generation of high-performance waxes. They repel water by incorporating hydrophobic fluorinated components
LF - Lightly Fluorinated: suitable for training and long-distance outings.
HF - Highly Fluorinated: ultra-high performance for racing.

How do I wax my skis?

Before applying the wax, prepare the base of your ski with the bronze brush.
Then apply the wax evenly with the waxing iron on the part of the ski intended for gliding (in classic: heel and tip / in skating on the whole length) then remove the excess wax in the groove and on the ski by scraping the base with the plastic scraper.
Finally, brush the base with the nylon brush.

At the end of the season, you'll need to wax your skis before storing them, but don't scrape them, as the wax will protect the base during the long storage period.
