Safety Council
Field hockey is fun. Don't neglect your safety. Always wear your mouthguard, shin guards and a glove. Use field hockey shoes with protective reinforcements and soles adapted to the playing surface. Wear a mask and special gloves when playing hockey. In matches and training sessions alike.
How to protect your hand?
"A field hockey glove is personal protective equipment. It must meet current standards including the European PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
Wear a field field hockey glove to protect your left hand from ball or stick impacts. A field field hockey glove features a molded plastic protective plate on the back of the hand as well as on the top of one or both phalanges, usually lined with a foam that absorbs the spread of impacts.
How to protect your hand (continued)
In some cases, thumb protection is made of foam only. Ideally, the open palm provides a good feel for the grip, while the inside of the phalanges is usually covered with a gripping fabric.
Renew your glove according to the manufacturer's instructions, and in any case as soon as it shows signs of wear.
Refer to the product leaflet regarding the manufacturer's liability.
Left only
The left hand is the first to be protected, as it is the most exposed. Gloves are also available for the right hand.
