Sound
The ringing of the Roman bell, without being too loud, is clearly audible at medium distance. It allows you to identify and locate your dog, even in a dense, closed biotope. So you can easily follow him by ear rather than by sight. Of course, the range of the sound also depends on your hearing ability.
Bell shape and sizes
Ball-shaped, the bell glides over vegetation and doesn't cling to it. The minimum number of openings prevents vegetation from getting inside and blocking the sound. On this Roman bell, the larger the number, the bigger the bell. Here are the corresponding diameters: n°3 = 25mm, n°5 = 30mm, n°8 = 35mm.
Security
The tinkling bell informs other hunters of your dog's presence. As it's perfectly suited to dogs hunting woodcock in the woods or pheasant on the plains, for example, it also indicates to other users of the countryside your presence in the immediate vicinity.
