Why is the weight of the Kimono Judo Aikido 500 important?
Judo is a gripping sport, where you have to hold on to your opponent and make him fall. This puts the kimono to a severe test. The fabric must therefore be very strong and thick enough to withstand opposing grips. The grammage determines the strength of a kimono: the higher the grammage, the more resistant the fabric.
With its 350g/m² grammage and reinforcements on the shoulders, knees and collar, this kimono is recommended for children moving towards competition.
Why is the cut of the Judo Aikido 500 Kimono so important for freedom of movement?
Your child needs to feel comfortable in his kimono to practice judo in the best conditions. That's why the fit is so important. A kimono that's too tight can restrict movement and affect performance. On the other hand, a kimono that's too big and too loose can hinder your child's movements and techniques.
The loose-fitting cuts of our kimonos are designed to give just the right amount of freedom of movement and facilitate practice.
What sizes are available for the children's Aikido 500 Judo Kimono?
Our children's kimonos are available in sizes from 120 cm to 150 cm.
How to choose the right kimono size?
Because they contain cotton, kimonos naturally tend to shrink by a few centimeters after the first three washes. We therefore advise you to choose a judo kimono that is 5 to 10 cm longer than the height of the judoka who will be wearing it. If, for example, your child is 133 cm tall, opt for a 140 cm kimono to anticipate this shrinkage.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced judoka, which kimono should you choose?
Depending on his level of practice, a child will opt for a kimono:
- 100% cotton, in a soft yet resistant twill fabric (220g/m²) if he is just starting out in judo;
- grain of rice type, if he has been practicing for 2 years (yellow or orange belt) or is just starting out in competition. Extremely resistant to the pull of the guard. Made from polyester and cotton (350 g/m²), it also shrinks and dries well. Ideal for more frequent washing between training sessions and competitions.
How do I care for my child's Judo Aikido 500 Kimono?
We recommend airing the kimono after each use. And to preserve its white color, wash regularly. Our tip? Wash your kimono cold for the first few washes. Thereafter, don't exceed 30°. And for drying, we strongly advise you to let it air-dry and not to use a tumble-dryer.
