Full cheeks are useful for green or young horses, as they can help them to steer. The branches of the bit create a positive action on the horse's cheeks when asked to turn. The full cheek design also prevents the bit from being dragged into the horse's mouth.
The Waterford mouthpiece is composed of a series of ball-shaped links, making it completely mobile in all directions. It is particularly appreciated for combating problems such as inclination, bit grip and jaw lock. When the horse tries to grasp the bit, the mouthpiece collapses, leaving the horse with no rigid grip.
The mouthpiece distributes pressure over the tongue and mouth bars. Combined with full cheeks, this bit is a good choice for a stronger horse that still needs guidance. The bit should be worn 1/4' - 1/2' wider than the standard size to be effective.
Measurements
According to our size guide, the A and B measurements of this bit are as follows:
A=18mm
B=165mm
Note: measurement C is taken between the first links of the chain at each end. It does not correspond to the total length of the mouthpiece.
Stainless steel horse bits...
Stainless steel is the most commonly used material for horse bits because it is durable, easy to clean and does not rust. Some of our stainless steel bits feature copper mouthpieces that help create a warm feeling and encourage the horse to salivate and accept the bit. Stainless steel bits are suitable for a wide range of horses and are available in many models, allowing you to choose the bit that's right for your horse and your discipline.
Match your Waterford bit with one of our anatomically designed bridles.
For health and hygiene reasons, this bit is not returnable if removed from the model.
