The Pelham mullen mouthpiece is one of the most basic Pelhams and is preferred to rubber or vulcanite Pelhams for horses with small mouths or large tongues. The curved mullen mouthpiece leaves room for the tongue while distributing pressure evenly in the mouth. The Pelham has been designed to be used with two reins, one attached to the upper ring (snaffle) and the other attached to the lower ring (curb), which is used when needed for extra leverage.
It can also be used with rounding's attached to a single rein, so that the mouthpiece and bridle come into action at the same time. The small ring above the bridle is used for a lip strap which is not essential but is correct for shows and helps keep the curb chain flat. The Pelham is ideal for stronger horses who can benefit from the activation of the bridle rein which exerts pressure on the bars of the mouth, chin and muzzle to help promote correct head carriage.

Stainless steel horse bits...
Stainless steel is the most commonly used material for horse bits because it is durable, easy to clean and does not rust. Some of our stainless steel bits feature copper mouthpieces that help create a warm feeling and encourage the horse to salivate and accept the bit. Stainless steel bits are suitable for a wide range of horses and are available in many models, allowing you to choose the bit that's right for your horse and your discipline.
Match your mullen mouth pelham bit with one of our anatomical bridles.
Please note that for health and hygiene reasons, this bit is not returnable if removed from the model.
