How do I adjust the angle of my paddle?
Adjustments depend on the kayaker, the sailing environment and the boat:
Between 0° and 45°, for whitewater, where you'll want to limit the time taken up by the gestures to be as reactive as possible.
Between 45° and 90°, for touring, where you'll want to reduce the windage for better effort management.
If in doubt, follow your instincts...
How do you paddle?
Hands low, horizontal or low angle:
All these terms mean the same thing. Your paddle is rather thin and long; in a touring spirit, you are looking for duration rather than strength.
This gesture allows you to manage your effort and limit fatigue at the
Mains hautes, vertical ou high angle:
Your paddle is wide and short; it is rather intended for use in whitewater or competition.
This more vertical gesture is more physical and consumes more energy.
