TECHNICAL INFORMATION

What is water repellency and how can it be preserved?

A fabric's water repellency is its ability to let water slide off its surface without absorbing it. This means the fabric doesn't become waterlogged, and remains light, breathable and warm. Water repellency is achieved by a treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric. This treatment needs to be renewed over the life of the garment (we recommend every wash). Products (spray or liquid) are available for this purpose in our stores.

Am I sure my pants are warm enough for winter hiking?

The inside of your pants is scratched, a process known to conserve heat. The principle is simple: the component's mesh is structured to create volume and trap air, a natural insulator. It's exactly the same principle as that of fur or animal feathers.

Good ventilation for optimum thermal comfort.

Thermal comfort is a balance between the warmth provided by the garment and its ability to let the body breathe. If moisture builds up, you'll feel the cold during less active phases (breaks, descents). We've designed these pants with your sometimes intense riding in mind, integrating a ventilation system with micro-perforated side zips on the thighs. A good balance of warmth and ventilation for optimum thermal comfort.

Comfortable, practical snow pants.

With a close-fitting cut and stretch fabric, your pants offer the freedom of movement essential for snow touring. Zippered pockets secure everything you need to keep close at hand (handkerchiefs, chapstick, keys...).

How do my pants protect me from the elements?

In winter, it's important to be protected from both moisture (snow, rain) and wind, as the latter cools the body enormously, both during activity and at rest. We've designed your pants with a windproof, water-repellent outer fabric to cope with all winter conditions. We've also added waterproof inserts on the buttocks and lower legs.
Gaiters with lace hooks protect you from snow intrusion.

The ideal outfit for cold-weather hiking!

We've designed these pants as part of the ideal outfit for your off-the-beaten-track hikes: the SH500 outfit. Equipped with your SH520 pants, SH500 fleece, SH520 boots and SH500 snowshoes, you'll be able to enjoy your hikes on snow whatever the weather. Set off light and well equipped!

How should I dress for snow hiking?

To dress properly in winter, whatever your activity, we recommend applying the 3-layer principle:
layer 1: technical undergarments allow moisture transfer to keep the skin dry.
layer 2: the second layer (fleece, sweater) provides warmth and moisture transfer.
layer 3: the jacket protects against external conditions: rain, snow, wind.
The whole garment must be breathable to evacuate moisture.

Will my pants stand up to regular use over time?

To ensure the durability of our products, we carry out tests on the chosen components: resistance to rubbing and abrasion, colorfastness, resistance to repeated washing. All these tests are carried out on the component of your pants.

STOCK TIPS

Store in a dry, dark place.
We recommend avoiding chemicals such as bleach, which can affect the thermal insulation of garments.

TESTS

We carry out 2 types of thermal test:
- a test of the trouser material.
- a test on a thermal dummy in a thermal chamber.
Here, we reproduce the temperature, wind (5km/h) and humidity conditions you'd encounter in the mountains when walking at 5km/h.
These tests validate our design choices, enabling us to tailor thermal insulation where you need it most.

Approved by

All our models are tested in the field by representative users, and we supplement this with laboratory tests. This two-pronged approach is an exhaustive and demanding way of developing and constantly improving the technical and design aspects of our products QUECHUA.
