BICYCLE BRAKE PAD HONING IS AN ESSENTIAL PROCEDURE TO ENSURE GOOD BRAKING EFFICIENCY.
It consists of gradually heating the brake pads and discs to create an even contact surface.
Before running in, it is important to follow these instructions:
-Clean the brake discs. If you're changing linings, it's also advisable to change the discs.
-Equip yourself. Wear a helmet and make sure you have a bike computer or GPS.
-Choose a safe place. Ride on a flat, dry road with no obstacles.
THE RUNNING-IN PROCEDURE CONSISTS OF BRAKING GRADUALLY AND REPEATEDLY AT INCREASING SPEEDS.
It's important to alternate front and rear braking, and to follow the following steps:
Step 1: Ride at 15 km/h and brake gradually down to 5 km/h, 10 times in succession.
Step 2: Ride at 20 km/h and brake gradually down to 5 km/h, 10 times in succession.
Step 3: Ride at 25 km/h and brake gradually down to 5 km/h, 10 times in succession.
Between each step, relax and ride for a few dozen meters to ventilate the disc and caliper.
A FEW ADDITIONAL TIPS FOR BRAKE PAD HONING :
Use one brake at a time to avoid overheating the pads.
-Ride on a flat road to avoid jerking.
-Do not apply sudden braking during break-in.
-Be patient. Running-in can take up to 30 minutes.
-If you notice a rainbow mark on the discs, or if your braking is less effective, this means that your pads are "glazed". If this is the case, don't hesitate to visit our workshop at Decathlon.
