Understanding the size of a red dot

The size of red dots is usually communicated in MOA. A MOA (Minute Of Angle) is a minute of angle, representing 1/60th of a degree. This MOA corresponds to a distance of 29mm at a distance of 100m. So, for this red dot, the 3 MOA dot completely covers a disc of (3 x 29mm = 87mm diameter) at a distance of 100 meters. A rule of three can be used to deduce the size of the dot at any distance.
