Component impermeability
We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure expressed in mm water column (test based on ISO 811).
The higher the pressure, the more impermeable the fabric.
A component with an impermeability of 5,000 mm will therefore withstand the pressure exerted by 5,000 mm water (roughly equivalent to a 3-hour thunderstorm).
Garment waterproofing
Technologies: this garment has been validated in a shower test under 30 cm of rain in 3 hours. This test reproduces average mountain storm conditions.
Poncho breathability
Our poncho and rain cape ranges are not equipped with waterproof/breathable membranes.
We therefore recommend gentle, leisurely use rather than rapid hiking to limit perspiration!
Component water repellency
The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide off its surface, without absorbing it.
This means that the fabric does not become waterlogged, and remains light, breathable and warm.
Water repellency is achieved by a treatment applied to the outside of the fabric.
This treatment needs to be renewed throughout the life of your garment (we recommend every 3 washes).
All Quechua ponchos and capes benefit from a water-repellent treatment.
