TECHNICAL INFORMATION

What is comfort temperature?

All our sleeping bags display comfort temperatures tested by an independent laboratory (AITEX) in accordance with international standard ISO 23537-1: 2022.
Comfort temperature is the minimum temperature at which an average person (woman, 25 years old, 60 kg, 1.60 m) is comfortable, without feeling cold, in a relaxed position.

Choose your sleeping bag according to this temperature.

And what is the comfort limit temperature?

The comfort limit temperature is the minimum temperature at which an average person (male, 25 years old, 70 kg, 1.73 m) can sleep curled up without feeling significantly cold.

And for information, the extreme temperature is the minimum temperature at which a person can survive (risk of hypothermia) for 6 hours. It's a measure of safety, not comfort.

Which mattress to use this sleeping bag with?

The protocol for measuring the thermal performance of a sleeping bag uses a mattress whose thermal resistance corresponds to an R-value of 4.8.
If you use a less insulating mattress, the thermal performance of your sleeping bag will be reduced.

We therefore advise you to use an insulating mattress for better thermal comfort.

A few tips before you slip into your sleeping bag

Dress simply (1 layer of clothing is enough).
Warm up your extremities: hats, gloves, socks, warmers, frictions... A flask of hot water can be used as a hot-water bottle (if there's no risk of accidentally opening it!).).
Contract your muscles (70% of the energy consumed is transformed into heat), but without making any movements that generate cold draughts.
Use a sleeping bag sheet to optimize warmth and avoid over-washing your sleeping bag.

Shape

Sarcophagus shape to optimize thermal insulation (no heat loss due to limited air circulation and entry) and compactness, implying reduced freedom of movement.
Shoulder width 73 cm, foot height 27 cm in size L.

The advantages of duck down and feather filling

Down's capacity to expand gives it 3 qualities for mountain sports:
- Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers
- Ultra-lightness: for equal warmth, feathers are lighter than synthetic wadding. This saves even more weight in the backpack
- Ultra compressibility

How do you measure the loft of down and feather fillings?

Loft represents the thermal insulation capacity of down by "trapping" a certain volume of air. It is expressed in CUIN.
So the more down inflates (the higher the number of CUIN), the more space it occupies, the more air it traps and therefore the better it insulates.

For this sleeping bag filled with 90% down / 10% feathers, the inflation capacity is guaranteed to be greater than or equal to 800 CUIN (IDFB international standard).

How do I care for a down sleeping bag?

Even if you regularly use a duffel sheet, you'll still need to wash your down bag from time to time. Follow our advice by copying the link below:
https://www.forclaz.fr/comment-entretenir-et-reparer-un-sac-de-couchage-en-plumes
In summary:
1/ machine wash, 30°, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Spin gently.
Use special down detergent (ref: 8609821)

2/ tumble dry, with 2 or 3 tennis balls, repeat 2 or 3 times until completely dry.

How to repair your sleeping bag?

On a trek, a tear in your sleeping bag can happen! The good news is that it can be repaired to prevent the tear from growing larger and feathers from escaping.

We recommend that you use our self-adhesive repair patches (ref: 8584596) or ask one of our technicians to carry out the operation in your store's workshop Decathlon.
