Why fish with spikes?
The rod pod is the simplest and most economical rod holder.
The main advantage is its small size, perfect for short sessions with one or 2 rods. If you have a set of different sizes, you'll be able to cope with a wide range of situations.
On hard banks, spades will show their limits, whereas the rod pod can be set up on any type of ground and guide the rods into multiple positions.
Position your rods correctly.
The use of spikes will allow you to place your rod in line with your line for a better perception of the bite. On a rod pod, it's obviously more difficult for each rod to be in line with the line.
In addition, depending on the spot you're fishing, you'll need to make the right choice of rod orientation: low, horizontal or high. By separating your rods with 2-pole buzzbars, you can more easily adapt this orientation to your fishing spot.
How to orientate your rods: high or low tip position (1)
Horizontal position: this is the natural position for your rods. It meets most fishing conditions for mid-range fishing in enclosed waters with no obstacles.
Low position or submerged tips: this position has the advantage of increasing the discretion of your banner on the bottom. This position is preferable on water with a clean bottom. In strong winds, this position prevents your line from getting caught in the wind.
How to orientate your rods: high or low tip position (2)
High position: if there are obstacles between your fishing spot and your spot, you need to move your line body further away. To do this, point your rods skywards. When fishing at very long distances, such as on lakes, contact with the rig is better and you can avoid obstacles you might not have spotted.
On rivers, to avoid the banner being subjected to the force of the current that causes your rig to move, favour the high position.
