Design history
To meet this technical challenge, the design team collaborated with a network of experts located at the Decathlon Sports Lab Research and Development Center (based in Lille, France).
These ergonomists, human science engineers specializing in the human body, worked with us to find the best possible ergonomics for:
- carrying
- handling
- posture
Numerous tests (perception, use, fatigue) were carried out in the lab and in real-life conditions.

We want to make your transitions simple, fast and fluid by facilitating your folding and unfolding phases.
UNFOLDING:
Incredible in 1 gesture, 1 SECOND!
No need to manipulate the hinges at this stage thanks to Decathlon's exclusive patented automatic hinge locking system.
FOLDING:
The distinctive shapes of the hinge levers make them easy and pleasant to handle.
These voluminous pallets, with rounded edges, provide a pleasant full-hand grip.
Frame
6061-T6 aluminum frame for lightness, dynamism and sturdiness.
The concept of a single-arm rear frame offers significant lateral compactness when the bike is folded.
It's only 35 cm wide. That's 20% more compact than the 20" folding bikes in our range.
Fork
Single-arm fork in 6061-T6 aluminum for lightness and strength.
The concept of a single-arm fork offers incredible lateral compactness when the bike is folded.

We also used topological optimization to develop this "open-work" fork.
This technology provides just the right amount of material while retaining the necessary rigidity.
Folded support system
The Fold Light 1" is held folded thanks to a brand-new system.
New magnets in the front and rear wheel hubs hold the bike with the wheels parallel.
The stem, once folded, is held against the frame thanks to the clip-on system.
This efficient system lets you push your bike in folded mode and carry it with peace of mind.
The bike rides in folded mode
YES, the Fold Light 1" rolls perfectly when folded!
Carry it only when necessary. That means when you have to climb stairs, or put it in a train rack or car boot.
The rest of the time, move it easily by rolling it even when it's folded.
Leave the seatpost up, push it with one hand and scoot everywhere, even in dense pedestrian areas (e.g. train stations, stores).
Brakes
V-brake type, with aluminum levers and calipers for efficient, progressive braking.
Tip:
Over the weeks and months, your brake pads will wear more or less quickly, depending on your riding style. This will depend on your riding style and where you go.
If your brakes become too soft, and when you brake your levers touch the grips, we advise you to readjust your brakes yourself or at a workshop.
Wheels
16-inch.
Single-wall rims with machined sidewalls.
Reinforced one-sided hubs with sealed ball bearings (based on the technology used on our road bikes).
Tires and tubes
Tires:
- Schwalbe Marathon Racer. Size 16 x 1.50.
- Lightweight, precise tires with good puncture protection to satisfy intensive users.
- Reflective strips on the tire sidewalls to enhance your lateral visibility at night.
Inner tube:
- Schwalbe for greater durability.
- Large Schrader-type valve.
Tips:
We advise you to inflate your tires to 6 BAR to limit the risk of punctures and guarantee better pedaling performance.
Transmission
You'll be amazed by the Fold Light 1"!
For an ultra-compact bike, it's incredibly efficient when pedaling, thanks to its Shimano SORA 9-speed transmission (a transmission also used on road bikes).
The trigger system gives your bike precision and reliability when shifting gears.
This bike rides very well on the flat and downhill. It adapts perfectly to the ups and downs of your journeys to manage your effort.
Cassette

Development range: 11 / 28 teeth
- 11 teeth on the smallest sprocket. To go faster.
- 28 teeth: on the largest sprocket. You won't strain the pedals.
Pedals / Pedals
Aluminum 52-tooth chainring, 170 mm cranks.
Foldable pedals for even greater compactness when your bike is folded.
Saddle
When you're a cyclist:
The seamless foam saddle is comfortable.
When you're a pedestrian/traveler:
The ergonomic handle under the saddle has 2 functions.
- It makes carrying the bike comfortable when it's fully folded. The saddle swings backwards, giving you a good balance when carrying your bike.
- This handle allows you to grab the bike, push it and roll it when folded. To do this, leave the seatpost raised.
Seat post
- Made of aluminum, diameter 34.9 mm.
- Graduated so you have a reference to quickly set the optimum height of your saddle and pedal efficiently and comfortably.
- Automatically rotates when lowered. It is guided by 1 brass screw and 1 groove. The saddle is thus oriented towards the rear, ensuring good balance when carrying the bike.
- Transforms into a kickstand when fully lowered, ensuring excellent stability when folded.
Bike stability: 3 crutches
- Push-button length-adjustable stand. It is used to keep the bike stable when unfolded (whether or not the bike is loaded with luggage).
- Frame support stand to rest the bike on when folding and to protect the crankset.
- The bottom of the seatpost turns into a stand when lowered to its maximum position during the folding phase. This function ensures incredible stability when the bike is folded for storage or transport on the subway.
Bike weight
The FOLD LIGHT 1 " weighs just 12 kg on the scales!
So it's super-light and super-easy to carry thanks to:
- 1 6061 T6 aluminum frame and fork.
- 1 single-arm frame and fork design for lateral compactness.
- 1 excellent balance when carried folded.
Grab the bike by the handle under the saddle.
You'll be thrilled to take the steps to get on the train or up the stairs.
User size and maximum load
One frame size fits all.
The geometry of this bike offers optimum comfort for riders between 1.45 m and 1.95 m tall.
This bike meets the requirements of ISO 4210.
The maximum load carried is 100 kg (bike weight + user + load carried). Beyond this limit, the bike's warranty is void.
Fold Light 1" specific and compatible accessories
- 16" protective cover (ref:8610451):
Enables you to cover your bike during transport (Eurostar, car, train...). The cover comes in a zippered pouch that you can install under the bike frame.
- 25L front bag for folding bike (ref: 8735484) :
Carries all your daily essentials. Clips onto the frame at the front of the bike in 1 second.
- Smartphone holder ( ref: 8595221) :
Clips onto the interface on the handlebars.
How do I transport luggage?
The bike comes standard with a carrying interface (on the frame above the front wheel).
It houses the exclusive luggage developed by the Btwin teams.
This is a 25L front pannier (ref: 8735484). It clips on and off in 1 hand and 1 second.
Positioned on the frame, you won't feel the weight of your luggage and the bike is stable.
Your riding comfort is optimal.
/!\ With the luggage loaded, you won't be able to lift the front wheel to go round a kerb.
Accessories NOT compatible
- Rear luggage racks are not compatible. This is because this bike has a single-arm rear frame design.
- Luggage racks that attach to the seatpost are not compatible.
- Baby seats are not compatible
- Child trailers are not compatible.

- Clips onto saddle rack. It is positioned higher up for greater visibility.
These lights are approved by the French highway code and comply with German standards.
The double micro USB port cable is supplied in the box with the bike.

Imperfections in the color of the green frame (shades of color, abrasion patina). They are not quality defects, but the result of our design choice of brushed, smoke-varnished aluminum.

Restrictions
/Always visually check that your frame and stem hinges are properly closed before riding.
This bike must not be used for acrobatics, mountain biking or BMX.
Warranty
Lifetime warranty on frame, stem (excluding hinges), rigid fork and handlebars.
