TECHNICAL INFORMATION

It's not always easy to define what a Softshell is

The softshell jacket or "softshell" is quite simply essential protection for outdoor activities. Its name comes from its "softshell" technology, which is an assembly of a windproof, breathable membrane sandwiched between a water-repellent outer face and an inner face that can be composed of a more or less warm, comfortable fleece.

The benefits of a softshell jacket

A softshell garment offers good thermal insulation thanks to its outer fabric and membrane to protect you from the wind, as well as its lining.
Unlike a parka or waterproof jacket, the textiles of softshell jackets are soft, breathable and covered with a water-repellent coating, enabling this garment to withstand light rain.
Highly functional, softshell brings a sporty look look that's both chic and casual.

Windproof and warm

Wind considerably increases the feeling of cold.
For example, at an outside temperature of 0°, with 20km of wind, the perceived temperature will be -10°.
Windproof components eliminate this discomfort by forming a barrier against the wind, thus effectively reducing heat loss.

The breathability of this jacket

The main fabric features a windproof membrane with a breathability of 3009 g/m2 /24 h (according to JIS L1099, method A2).

Technical data and features

2 hand pockets with zip fastening
Inside flap under front zip for wind protection.
Protective stand-up collar.
Elasticated cuffs.
Elasticated hem.

The water-repellency level of this jacket

The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide over its surface without absorbing it.
This means that the fabric does not become waterlogged, and remains light and warm.
Water repellency is achieved by a perfluorocarbon-free (PFC-free) treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric, but it can be altered with use.
We recommend that you reactivate it every time you wash.

How to reactivate water repellency

You can find out how to reactivate the water repellency of your down jacket in our article "Maintaining, washing and repairing waterproof or water-repellent garments" available at https://conseilsport.decathlon.fr/. You can also use the textile waterproofing liquid available in stores or on the site under reference 8554908.
