Limiting snow entry - generalities
This children's snowboard jacket (or children's ski jacket, as the case may be) is designed to limit the entry of snow:
_ back: snow skirt + long cut,
_ wrists (highly exposed area): long sleeves + cuffs to protect the wrist,
_ neck: collar with a gusset that goes up high / hood with a Velcro fastening to keep it rolled up to protect the neck under the helmet.
Limits snow ingress - zoom on the highly sensitive wrist area
This jacket has been developed and tested with the MI 500 JR PROTECT snowboard mitt, which fits under the jacket, so that children can easily position the mitt under the sleeve on their own (for ages 8 and over - at 6, it's still complicated).
The next step is to prevent snow from getting in:
1. jacket sleeve with push pass, which prevents the sleeve from riding up,
2. mittens that ride up high on the wrist
3. jacket sleeve that covers everything.
HEAT
For warmth, this jacket features 100 g/m² wadding, plus a brushed polyester mesh lining.
WATERPROOFING
In addition to waterproof fabric, we reinforce the waterproofing of our children's snowboard jackets and children's ski jackets with waterproof seams. These are heat-glued, waterproof strips applied to the seams inside the garment to make it perfectly waterproof.
For this SNB JKT 100 jacket, only the main shoulder seams are waterproof.
4 pockets
This Decathlon children's snowboard jacket is designed for occasional snowboarding, yet features 4 pockets:
_ 2 side pockets secured by zip fastening,
_ 1 inside pocket secured by Velcro fastening
_ 1 ski pass pocket on left sleeve secured by Velcro fastening.
Hood rolled up under helmet
When snowboarding, snow can get inside the jacket. To keep this unpleasant experience to a minimum, the collar and hood have been designed to work together.
For the hood to act as a scarf and prevent snow from entering, the hood must be folded in 4 and the Velcro fastened so that it stays upright and fills the gap under the helmet.
The collar must be closed normally, all the way to the top to tighten everything.
Hood over helmet
The hood of Snb JKT 100 jackets is not designed to go over the helmet.
This function is available for Snb JKT 500 jackets.
How to dress children so they don't get cold on the slopes?
To stay warm and dry, simply apply the 3-layer rule:
- Layer 1 or second skin, to stay dry.
- Layer 2 or insulating layer, to retain heat.
- Layer 3 or protective layer, to protect from the elements.

Water often gets in through the seams. Does my jacket have taped seams?
In addition to the waterproof fabric, we reinforce the waterproofness of the jacket with waterproof seams. These are heat-glued, waterproof strips affixed to the seams inside the garment to make it perfectly watertight. For this product, these waterproof seams are present on the areas most exposed to snow (hoods, shoulders).
Why is my jacket water-repellent?
The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide off its surface without absorbing it, thanks to a treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric. The fabric does not become waterlogged, remaining light and warm. This treatment must be renewed during the life of the product, after an average of 2 to 3 washes, using products available in our stores. All the waterproof jackets we offer snowboarders are water-repellent.
How does my jacket keep me warm?
To keep children warm, we use wadding insulation. Wadding is a synthetic polyester-based component that stores more or less air, depending on the size of the fibers. There are standard, technical and siliconized wadding products with different properties (warmth, lightness, elasticity, etc.).
