Limiting snow entry - generalities
This children's snowboard jacket (or children's ski jacket, which also works) is designed to limit the entry of snow at:
_ back: snow skirt + long cut,
_ wrists (very exposed area): long sleeves + sleeves equipped with thumbholes to prevent the entry of snow,
_ neck: collar with a gusset that goes up high / hood with a Velcro fastening to keep it rolled up, and protecting the neck.
The hood can also be put over the helmet.
Limits snow ingress - zoom on the highly sensitive wrist area
This jacket has been developed and tested with the MI 500 JR PROTECT snowboarding mitt, which passes under the jacket so that children can easily position the mitt under the sleeve on their own (for ages 8 and up - at 6, it's still complicated). The next step is to prevent snow from getting in:
1. jacket sleeve with push pass, which prevents the sleeve from riding up,
2. mittens that ride up high on the wrist,
3. jacket sleeve that covers everything.
Heat
For warmth, this jacket has 2 different waddings to perfectly meet the need for warmth:
_ 150 g/m² for the body, with an additional fleece lining,
_ 100 g/m² for the sleeves.
Waterproofing
In addition to waterproof fabric, we reinforce the waterproofing of our children's snowboard jackets and children's ski jackets with waterproof seams. These are heat-glued, waterproof strips applied to the seams inside the garment to make it perfectly waterproof.
For this SNB JKT 500 jacket, 100% of the seams are waterproof.
5 pockets
This Decathlon children's snowboard jacket is designed for regular to intensive snowboarding, so it has all the pockets you need:
_ 2 side pockets secured by a zip fastening,
_ 1 outside chest pocket secured by a zip fastening,
_ 1 inside mesh pocket for a buff, mask, etc.
_ 1 ski pass pocket on left sleeve secured by a zip fastening.
Hood rolled up under helmet
When snowboarding, snow can get inside the jacket. To keep this unpleasant experience to a minimum, the collar and hood have been designed to work together.
For the hood to act as a scarf and prevent snow from entering, the hood must be folded in 4 and the Velcro fastened so that it stays upright and fills the gap under the helmet.
The collar should be closed normally, all the way to the top to tighten the whole thing.
Hood over helmet
The hood of this jacket is designed to be placed over the helmet, in case of strong winds, heavy snowfall, etc.
In this position, open the collar of the jacket by about 10 cm, place the hood over the helmet and simply close the collar with the gusset (Velcro fastening). The gusset creates a sheltered area for the mouth and nose.
How to dress children so they don't get cold on the slopes?
To stay warm and dry, simply apply the 3-layer rule:
- Layer 1 or second skin, to stay dry.
- Layer 2 or insulating layer, to retain heat.
- Layer 3 or protective layer, to protect from the elements.

We take particular care in selecting all the components and assemblies that go to make up our ski and snowboard jackets, to guarantee the best possible resistance.
Water often gets in through the seams. Does my jacket have taped seams?
In addition to the waterproof fabric, we reinforce the waterproofness of the jacket with waterproof seams. These are heat-glued, waterproof strips applied to the seams inside the garment to make it perfectly watertight. For this product, 100% of the seams are waterproof.
How to wash the jacket?
To optimize the performance and durability of your jacket, we recommend:
* Machine wash at 30°, synthetic program.
* Turn the product inside out.
* Use very little detergent. Do not use fabric softener.
* Manual spin-drying recommended.
* Hang to dry in a warm, well-ventilated place.
Do not dry-clean. Do not place on radiator.
Outer fabric can be re-waterproofed using a textile re-waterproofing spray. See care label.
Why is my jacket water-repellent?
The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide off its surface without absorbing it, thanks to a treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric. The fabric does not become waterlogged, and remains light and warm. This treatment must be renewed during the product's lifetime, after an average of 2 to 3 washes, using products available in our stores. All the waterproof jackets we offer snowboarders are water-repellent.
How does my jacket keep me warm?
To keep your child warm, we use wadding insulation. Wadding is a synthetic polyester-based component that stores more or less air, depending on the size of the fibers. There are standard, technical and siliconized wadding products with different properties (warmth, lightness, elasticity, etc.).
How do I care for my product?
To optimize the performance and durability of your product, we recommend : Machine wash separately at 30°. Synthetic program. Turn product inside out. Use little washing powder. Do not use fabric softener. Manual spinning recommended. Hang to dry in a warm, well-ventilated place. Do not dry clean. Do not place on a radiator. Outer fabric can be waterproofed with textile waterproofing spray.
