Am I sure my fleece is warm enough for winter hiking?
The inside of your fleece is brushed, a process known to conserve heat. The principle is simple: the component's mesh is structured to create volume and trap air, a natural insulator. It's exactly the same principle as that of fur or animal feathers. As an added bonus, this jacket features cuffs at the bottom of the sleeves to limit the entry of cold air.
What is the polar component and why is it so hot?
Polar fleece, made from synthetic fibers, aims to reproduce the performance of wool: warmth, thermal insulation, while being lighter. It's soft, comfortable, quick-drying and breathable.
Isn't such a soft, pleasant component fragile?
To ensure the resistance of our products, we carry out tests on the components. We check, for example, that fleeces don't pilling, that colors don't fade, and that repeated washing doesn't alter the fabric's properties.
The abrasion resistance of a fabric is measured using a test called the martindale. This machine rubs a fabric sample against a reference surface with a weight on the end.
Good ventilation for optimum thermal comfort
Thermal comfort is a balance between the warmth provided by the garment and its ability to let the body breathe. If moisture builds up, you'll feel the cold during less active phases (breaks, descents). We've designed this fleece for your sometimes intense practice, adding a back opening and side stretch inserts that extend under the arms. A good balance of warmth and ventilation for optimum thermal comfort.
How does my fleece protect me from the elements?
In winter, it's very important to be protected from both moisture (snow, rain) and wind, as the latter cools the body enormously, both when active and when resting. We've equipped your fleece jacket with waterproof inserts on the shoulders, lower sleeves and hood. So your jacket can accompany you even in wet weather or light snow showers.
A comfortable and practical snow fleece
With its close-fitting cut and stretch fabric inserts on the sides, your fleece gives you the freedom of movement you need when hiking in the snow. Zipped pockets secure everything you need to keep close at hand (handkerchiefs, chapstick, gloves, keys, etc.). The hood and waterproof shoulders make your fleece jacket a versatile piece of clothing, halfway between a second and third layer. It's an essential part of your snow touring outfit.
The perfect outfit for snowshoeing!
We've designed this fleece as part of the ideal outfit for your off-the-beaten-track hikes: the SH500 outfit. Equipped with your SH500 fleece, SH520 pants, SH520 boots and SH500 snowshoes, you'll be able to enjoy your hikes on snow whatever the weather. Set off light and well equipped!
How should I dress for snow hiking?
To dress properly in winter, whatever your activity, we recommend applying the 3-layer principle:
layer 1: technical undergarments allow moisture transfer to keep the skin dry.
layer 2: the second layer (fleece, sweater) provides warmth and moisture transfer.
layer 3: the jacket protects against external conditions: rain, snow, wind.
The whole garment must be breathable to evacuate moisture.
