Am I sure my fleece is warm enough for winter hiking?
The inside of your fleece is brushed, a process known to conserve heat. The principle is simple: the component's mesh is structured to create volume and trap air, a natural insulator. It's exactly the same principle as that of fur or animal feathers. As an added bonus, this jacket features cuffs at the bottom of the sleeves to limit the entry of cold air.
What is the polar component and why is it so hot?
Polar fleece, made from synthetic fibers, aims to reproduce the performance of wool: warmth, thermal insulation, while being lighter. It's soft, comfortable, quick-drying and breathable.
Isn't such a soft, pleasant component fragile?
To ensure the durability of our products, we carry out component tests. We check, for example, that fleeces don't pilling, that colors don't fade, and that repeated washing doesn't alter the fabric's properties.
The abrasion resistance of a fabric is measured using a test called the martindale. This machine rubs a fabric sample against a reference surface with a weight on the end.
Good ventilation for optimum thermal comfort
Thermal comfort is a balance between the warmth provided by the garment and its ability to let the body breathe. If moisture builds up, you'll feel the cold during less active phases (break, descent).
This fleece jacket is not equipped with a windproof membrane, but its counter-glued construction provides a good level of protection.
We recommend opening the jacket for intensive use to ventilate.
How does my fleece protect me from the elements?
In winter, it's very important to be protected from both moisture (snow, rain) and wind, as the latter cools the body enormously, whether you're active or resting. This fleece jacket has a counter-glued construction on the inside that enhances thermal protection. There is no windproof membrane.
A comfortable and practical snow fleece
With its loose fit, your fleece gives you the freedom of movement you need when hiking on snow. Zipped pockets keep everything close at hand (handkerchiefs, chapstick, gloves, keys...). This fleece jacket is highly versatile, halfway between a second and third layer. It's an essential part of your snow touring outfit.
How should I dress for snow hiking?
To dress properly in winter, whatever your activity, we recommend applying the 3-layer principle:
layer 1: technical undergarments allow moisture transfer to keep the skin dry.
layer 2: the second layer (fleece, sweater) provides warmth and moisture transfer.
layer 3: the jacket protects against external conditions: rain, snow, wind.
The whole garment must be breathable to wick away moisture.
How does my product warranty work?
This product is guaranteed for 2 years from the date of sale indicated on the sales receipt. The product covered by the warranty will be exchanged free of charge. The warranty covers defects in your product, excluding those resulting from normal wear and tear and those resulting from abnormal use.
What is the environmental impact of products, and how can I compare it?
The product's environmental impact is calculated over its entire life cycle, using various indicators. An ABCDE rating is produced to help you easily identify the products with the best environmental performance by comparing products of the same type with each other. Decathlon is a voluntary participant in this approach. All our sustainable initiatives at http://developpement-durable.decathlon.com/
