Our actions for a more planet-friendly design
We know the impact our sport has on the environment, and we're committed to minimizing the impact of our products to protect our playing field. This jacket has been developed with the following features in mind:
- 90% recycled wadding
- Fluorine-free main fabric
- Dope dyed lining
What is Dope Dyed?
Dyeing textiles requires a lot of water, chemicals and energy. And yet, we love wearing color. To limit this impact, we use the "Dope Dyed" technique, which consists of integrating color pigments in powder form as soon as the yarn is manufactured (and not by soaking in dye baths, as is usually the case). This limits the consumption and discharge of wastewater linked to the dyeing of our fabrics.
What we do less well in reducing our environmental impact
Despite our efforts, it's not always easy to reduce our impact as much as we'd like. For this product we are working to:
- Transform the main component into a recycled one
- Use a Dope Dyed dye for all components
- Find out how to make a product waterproof with a recycled PU coating
- Make the coating separable (or of the same chemical composition) to facilitate product recycling
Can I compare the environmental impact of products?
The product's environmental impact is calculated over its entire life cycle, using various indicators. An ABCDE rating is produced to help you easily identify the products with the best environmental performance by comparing products of the same type with each other. Decathlon is a voluntary participant in this approach:

Am I sure my jacket will protect me from the elements?
To enable you to cope with the elements (rain, snow, wind, etc.), the jacket has been developed with a component and assembly that blocks the passage of water and limits the sensation of wind. To validate waterproofing, this product was placed under a specially designed shower, reproducing the conditions encountered by a snowboarder in the field. Finally, we carried out several days of snowboarding in all conditions to validate the product's waterproofness.
Water often gets in through the seams. Does my jacket have taped seams?
In addition to the waterproof fabric, we reinforce the waterproofness of the jacket with waterproof seams. These are heat-glued, waterproof strips affixed to the seams inside the garment to make it perfectly watertight. For this product, these waterproof seams are present on the areas most exposed to snow (hoods, shoulders).
Why is my jacket water-repellent?
The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide off its surface without absorbing it, thanks to a treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric. The fabric does not absorb water, and remains light and warm. This treatment must be renewed during the life of the product, after an average of 2 to 3 washes, using products available in our stores. All the waterproof jackets we offer snowboarders are water-repellent.
Coated" jacket: what are the advantages of coating?
A breathable coating consists of coating a textile support with a paste or liquid to create a protective film. A breathable coating is an impermeable barrier that allows water vapor emitted by the body during snowboarding to pass through.
How does my jacket keep me warm?
To keep you warm, we use wadding insulation. Wadding is a synthetic polyester-based component that stores more or less air, depending on the size of the fibers. There are standard, technical and siliconized wadding products with different properties (warmth, lightness, elasticity, etc.).
How should I dress to keep warm in the mountains?
To stay warm and dry, simply apply the 3-layer rule:
- Layer 1 or second skin, to stay dry.
- Layer 2 or insulating layer, to retain heat.
- Layer 3 or protective layer, to protect from the elements.
How do I wash my jacket?
To optimize the performance and durability of your jacket, we recommend:
* Machine wash at 30°, synthetic program.
* Turn inside out.
* Use very little detergent, no fabric softener. Do not use fabric softener.
* Manual spin-drying recommended.
* Hang to dry in a warm, well-ventilated place.
Do not dry-clean. Do not place on radiator.
Outer fabric can be waterproofed using a textile waterproofing spray. Read care label.
Why are the waterproof values on the Internet and those printed on the jacket different?
We've designed our jacket with a technical coating that guarantees 10000 mm waterproofness at the time of purchase. All coatings lose their effectiveness after each wash, which is why we also test the product to guarantee optimum waterproofing even after 5 washes. It's this value after 5 washes that's printed on the jacket, so that the information will be true even years from now when you resell your product.
